Religion.... In the immortal words of Charlie Brown...O good grief

I must admit that I get this a lot, Oh youre studying at Bible college, inevitably the initial question is "What religion are you?" In Australia that means "Are you protestant or catholic?" Ironically religion is diametrically opposed to true Christianity. Religion could easily be defined as everything we put in our lives in place of God, including money, sex, power, work, relationships, possessions and even empty religiosity.
How do we test to see if we are being spiritual people or if we are being religious? True Christianity is all about God, whereas religion is all about us. The aim of life is not to make us happy. True happiness comes from fullfilling our God given purpose, which is to be transformed into the image and likeness of His son Jesus. This process is for His glory. The deep and abiding Joy which we experience (surpasses circumstances and understanding) because we are not its source. It is a gift from God.
Secondly as Christians we are to be ministers of God, not ministers of religion. As priests of God we are to set people free from the shackles of fase religion and show them the value of being slaves to Christ.
